#486DX2
the A1200 shipped in 92 with a 14mhz EC020 and no fast ram. a 486dx2 cost the same and ran doom. meanwhile the board was still signing off 8088 clones. the 8088 was dead by 1988.

Of course. And what more could you possibly want?

(I did actually have an AWE64 Gold in my 486dx2, so put that in your pipe!)

If it's the first computer I used regularly in school? An Apple ][e.

If it's the first one my family owned? A Gateway 2000 with a 486DX2, a CD-ROM and 8MB of RAM. Many games of Doom and The 7th Guest were played on that machine when I was a teenager.

Yes! I recall that! Nice one! Still on my 256kB card not playable. Saved a HUGE pile of money to upgrade from 387 to 486DX2/66.What a LEAP.Kept that well into w95.Again,saved all my money, asked two tall friends to protect me on my way to a local store to buy 16MB(!) of RAM for 1000(!)DM. Lightspeed!

I remember a friend telling me he had a 486dx2 with 16mb ram. This was in 1993 and I remember being amazed at this spec pc & we spent many hours burning midnight oil playing Civ instead of uni work 😂 he upgraded to a pentium and I borrowed his 486 c. 1995. Until I bought a pentium sometime in 96.

It does.

I ran a 1.0.x on a 486DX2-66 after some fights.

X took a lot longer 🤣🤣

Ha.... Reminds of booting 5 different OS on my 486DX2

OS/2 was miles ahead.

Linux was.... Tricky 🤣

So that is stil buggy on corner cases (can't save to Smartport...), but it globally works, I can fetch pictures from the Canon PowerShot 350 from my #appleii!
I took the liberty of zooming in on the box's so-called "System Requirements".
System Requirements are overrated.

その前はたぶん1994年に組んだ初めての自作PC(486DX2 66MHz)、

The historical context being that at that time, Intel was just starting to move towards CPUs that needed cooling. (I killed a Compaq Deskpro 386/33 by running it with the lid off. Whoops.)

1992:
• Intel 486DX2 – onboard FPU, needs a heatsink.
• Acorn ARM 250 – the first ever system-on-a-chip (SoC)

My game for the @MsDOSClub contest, still in quite an early stage, running on an actual 486DX2@66! 🤩
(CRT👿)
I'm not sure about the teletype effect for this kind of game (kinda point'n'click adventure). What do you think?
