#5VDC
Debating if it would be more sane to run 24VDC @ 19A or 48VDC @ 10A to the backplane and regulate it down to 5VDC + maybe some other stuff there or just say fuck it and and pump 5VDC @ 70A to it

The real problem are broken devices that do not follow the standard, most commonly devices that use USB as a dumb 5vDC input and don't negotiate PD, those won't work with any c to c cables and require a to c plus a dumb power supply.

I did not, I opened the box and saw it had a 0-5vdc output rather than the 4-20 mA our PLC uses and just instantly knew I fucked it.

Hand has srtopped aching so am going to wire up the DIN plug today on that C64 power supply. My PSU only has pins for 6,7 (9VAC) and 2,4 (GND, 5VDC). Online info indicate that 5VDC should be on 5, not 4, though it is optional on 4.

Homelab V3 Status:

OPNSense box bodged.

Pigtail lead soldered to open 5vdc pads on the motherboard.

Fan shroud printed & blowerfan screwed into place.

Network card seems pretty stable now.

For when you need to run 80 Pi 5's at full load

Realizing that on a 6 pin connector with a common ground I can cram in:
- 120vac @8a switched
- vdc common ground
- 24vdc @300w switched
- 2x 5vdc @50ma PWM

which gives me SO MANY TOOLEND OPTIONS

wait. you can be both 0-5vdc and 4-20mA at the same time. if the plc does 5 volt logic a 4-20 mA cap sounds roughly right. voltage and amperage should align on spec

Three power supplies, 14vac, 3.3vdc, 5vdc, all fused and switched individually so there's ample room for future electrical scenery. The goal is to have it running autonomously, with up to six trains on four lines. All the wiring I scavenged from a discarded Corolla harness and cost nothing.

the industrial boxes want +19VDC @ 3A peak and my disk array and tape drive want +5VDC @ 10A peak.

the basic idea is I have DC/DC converters that turn +10~14VDC into the required voltages and put a LiFePO4 battery on the input rails. mains failure trips a watchdog and the battery is already to go

The ripple problem applies to all of those modern PSUs, ie their 5VDC rail. The 9VAC is mostly not critical, IF it is produced by a transformer (producing it "digitally" is an art by itself).

Careful little buddy, you don't want none of that +5vdc
September 13, 2023 at 12:45 AM
usb c is 5vdc unless you configure resistors to request higher voltages and you have a charger that supports it

Repaired some old Commodore parts....it is a C1541. The 5VDC Voltage Regulator just died.

Another reason to make repairs clean and tidy? The next person to work on it may be yourself.

Cut a few traces that I realized later that I could've left intact, so I needed to patch those back together.

Now she's got a more conventional voltage regulator for the +5VDC.

With both of those working, here's a design for a version that has a 5V booster with the TPS61023 (www.adafruit.com/product/4654), which gives a nice clean 1A with a small bill of materials. now you can use USB, DC, or solar to charge your favorite lipoly or liion chip and get 5V output.

This adorable little board will come in very handy whenever you need a good amount of 5V power. It's the size of a linear regulator, but it's actually a mini-booster! Input 2-5VDC on ...

Boards! This is this year's entry into my longstanding fixation on "drive a lot of smartleds using RS-485 for data, and DC cabling, to step 18VDC down to 5VDC using a DC/DC converter".

This year is extra small (the same size as a 4x6 LEGO plate).

I forgot, it also used 8" floppies. And a terminal. Mine had two. I never turned on the second one. Eventually the actual hard disks themselves were used for target practice. You could almost weld with the regulated 5VDC supply.
