The MPs urged the UK to impose personal sanctions on three senior Kyrgyz officials for their role in enabling sanctions evasion, including allowing infrastructure to support the A7A5 cryptocurrency.

A7A5 is a ruble-pegged stablecoin that has processed more than $100 billion in transactions.

Bloomberg reports the EU plans to sanction Russia’s main cryptocurrency for cross-border payments: the ruble-backed stablecoin A7A5. The coin, developed by payment firm A7 controlled by pro-Russian politician Ilan Shor and ProBusinessBank, supports transactions worth $68 billion.

Pro-Russian Moldovan fugitive politician and fraudster Ilan Shor has been added to Ukraine’s sanctions list signed by President Zelensky. As reported by the Financial Times, Shor created the A7A5 crypto token to help Russia bypass sanctions, moving around $9.3 billion in just four months.

🇺🇦 Zelensky has imposed NSDC sanctions on former head of the Presidential Office Andriy Bohdan.

The list includes four more individuals:
Bohdan Pukish, Medvedchuk associate;
Alan Kiryukhin, a Russian businessman and key manager of the sanctioned A7A5 payment system;

It is linked to the Russian bank Promsvyazbank, which is under UK, EU, and US sanctions. However, exchanges in Kyrgyzstan — including Grinex and Meer, which are also under sanctions — have allowed A7A5 to be purchased for cash.

The sanctions will prohibit any engagement by EU-based entities in transactions involving the token and target several banks for enabling crypto-related transactions.

A7A5 was developed by A7, a company owned by Ilan Shor and the Russian state-owned lender Promsvyazbank, which was sanctioned by the UK, the EU and the US in 2022.
