#AB1705
Anyway, i have no idea what the solution to this is. I'm a science professor in California whose main worry is how the covid crisis and AB1705 are screwing over students who need calculus but are similarly underprepared for college level maths, but that's a whole other thread

Faculty, students and chairs urge board to extend guidance preserving pre‑calculus options under AB1705
During a lengthy public forum faculty chairs, instructors and students urged the Board to extend indefinitely a Dec. 2024 guidance memo preserving two semesters of pre-calculus or equivalent pre-transfer math pathways, saying rapid AB1705 implementation and pandemic-era disruptions are leaving many students unprepared for calculus-based STEM.

i was about to say that ab1705 and ab705 is impacting the CCs a little like this, but it's tricky because tracking people into remedial math based on bad reasons (which are boring and easy courses, terrible for a smart STEM student) was the historical norm.

What is AB1705?
November 17, 2024 at 8:16 AM
Thanks to AB705 and AB1705 remedial math courses were eliminated. Then students completely unprepared by k-12 started failing their transfer level stats and calculus courses. So we're going back to precalculus because students can choose it but most expect to be passed through like k-12.
