At the end of ABBBJ I was like “well that was just a less propulsive ’About Time’ with added Mitski”. Not unenjoyable but not as profound as it’s trying to be!

And it doesn't have to make sense to anyone but them, even not to you. Not as strong as ABBBJ, not as emotional as After Yang, but still worthy. Haley Lu Richardson's best performance yet

Both films are perfectly watchable, even charming. But grand pronouncements about love (in Materialists that quantifying a match is foolish & in ABBBJ that others can make us happy but only we can make ourselves content) with no laughs makes both feel like a cinematic exercise than a character story

I gave ABBBJ 3.25 stars out of 5.

Kaufman – thank you!
I was looking for a term to describe ABBBJ’s particular strain of surrealism, and Kaufman or Kaufmanesque fit perfectly.

Had no time for new films this week, but oddly not such a bad thing. HIM and ABBBJ both don't look particularly necessary. I've rarely so needed a cinematic dry-spell. Still a few things worth seeing though.
