Y’know what, I remember reading this when you published it two years ago and rereading it I feel such a burning anger all over again. And it’s not too different (albeit with significant polity differences!) with the relationship I had with my former pastor-boss when I served in the ABCUSA. 😑😑😑

People are being silly about the SBC thing. There's multiple mainline denominations (most notably the Disciples of Christ and the ABCUSA) that are non-creedal and historically so.

And the National Baptists are only slightly smaller than ABCUSA (ex-Northern Baptists), though I think they are also more conservative and evangelical-esque than the Progressive Baptists who are the other major Historically Black Baptist group?

Only for a little while: my first church was an ABCUSA congregation in rural Illinois (near my hometown) — I loved serving there, it was a delight, and… well, it went sour with my toxic boss who was pastor at a neighboring, more successful church

Do I sense critique of the ABCUSA in this article by @baptistnews.com? Maybe I'm too hopeful. Certainly Baptist distinctives can be used to create a better world, but the American Baptist Churches has had zero social witness for years, and if you haven't called out this admin by now, you won't ever.
