#ACTN3
Why not screen out people with the genetic variants of ACTN3 which improve muscle speed? Or any of hundreds of other small mutations that benefit athletic activity?

Why take baby steps? Just go full Harrison Bergeron, already!

ACTN3, for athletes, perhaps?

don't want surgery just want to have a violent viral conversation with our rs1815739 SNP from ACTN3 where we can convince it to change it's ways

This 🐂 💩 enrages me.

If people were worried about “advantages”, where’s the outrage over Eero Mantyranta? Or the variations in ACTN3 or ACE genes? Or heritability?

I’m so, so exhausted by the ignorance of people who pretend to be progressive while acting as the propaganda arm for right wingers.
You really need to take a step back and think about this. The LGBTQ community deserves every right to love who they want to love and not be discriminated against. But insisting on allowing trans males to compete in girls sports where they have physical advantages? This is how we lose elections.

ACTN3 genotype influences androgen response in developing murine skeletal muscle
ACTN3 deficiency (which is common in humans) reduces muscle androgen receptor levels and modifies muscle response to testosterone.

“Experts say [it’s] nearly impossible to determine what gives any person an advantage…it is hard to determine whether testosterone exposure that a trans woman would have before transition, provides more of an advantage than a person who was born tall…or [has] a variant of the ACTN3 or ACE genes”

A study of 422 COVID-19 patients in Turkey found variations in sports-related genes (ACE, ACTN3, PPARGC1A) influenced severity.

ACE and ACTN3 offered protection, while PPARGC1A increased risk, highlighting genetics’ role in outcomes.

If they can find a way to last 25 years, maybe we'll get genetically engineered super humans in the games. Give everybody ACTN3.

So that is why I prefer genetic engineering to mutate LRP5, BMP2, reinforce ACTN3, UCP1, PPARa, and edit PIEZO2 then our LGBTQ+ can just fly out of those Maga to the sky.

Also, we soon have vaccine or crispr to fully cure ppl from HIVs or STIs, cancer, disease, virvus infection too.

There's a handy mutation to ACTN3 gene that gives you resilience against cold including improved endurance at the cost of lower sprinting performance.

Right. And what needs to be established (I think) is that the advantage is on the level of a "category" advantage not regular genetic advantage (so compare e.g. the ACTN3 gene).

There are well-documented genetic variations that give people "unfair" advantages in many different areas, for example, the ACTN3 gene. Do you want to go full Harrison Bergeron and tie weights to athletes with a genetic edge?

💡 3. Multiple Genes Influence a Single Trait
✅ Strength, power, & sarcopenia risk aren’t controlled by a single gene like ACTN3.
✅ Other genes in muscle protein synthesis, metabolism, and inflammation influence training responses.
February 15, 2025 at 2:44 PM
📢 Takeaway:
While ACTN3-R577X influences muscle fiber composition & power, it does not dictate muscle function or sarcopenia risk.

🏋️ Strength training is universally beneficial—regardless of genetics.

🔥 Your training & lifestyle matter more than your genes.

February 15, 2025 at 2:44 PM
The ACTN3-R577X polymorphism is one of the most well-studied genetic variations in muscle function & athletic performance. It affects α-actinin-3, a protein in fast-twitch (type II) muscle fibers, which are key for explosive strength & power movements.
February 15, 2025 at 2:43 PM
💡 1. Environmental & Lifestyle Factors Matter More
✅ Strength training (ST) overrides genetic predisposition—in the ACTN3 study, individuals reversed sarcopenia w ST, regardless of genotype.
✅ Diet, activity, sleep, recovery also modify gene expression & impact muscle health.

Genotype Doesn’t Always Predict Phenotype—Here’s Why

Your genetics don’t dictate your muscle function or sarcopenia risk as much as you might think. The ACTN3-R577X study reinforces a key principle in genetics: genotype ≠ phenotype.

Let’s break it down. 🧵👇
