So, people are relegated to using highly inefficient and energy-hungry portable air-conditioners that slap a bandaid on the issue.
A proper mini-split AC is what every building needs, but the outdoor condenser units are considered "ugly". I see them as attractive because they make homes livable.

I'm pleased you pointed out the inconsistency between how heating and cooling needs are viewed in W. Europe. It drives me up the wall. It's also very unfortunate that the political right (RN) here is milking public discontent by promising a massive AC drive, while the left engages in Calvinism.

I do (in France), but 75% of people don't. I'm trying to convince progressives here that AC needs to be mandated in tenancy and workplace laws the way heating is. Unfortunately there is immense cultural resistance to this, resistance that isn't grounded in science or logic.

For those out the know, in order to get an Adit Stamp appointment you need a receipt number showing you have a pending I-90 so they would have known he was good when he walked in.

I also think we have a real issue of context collapse. The convos about cooking being less expensive than eating out don’t apply to people who can’t but rather than people seeing these posts and knowing that this isn’t about them, that becomes what the convo is about. It feels performative to me

Although it won't help the flora and fauna, the French and other Western/Central Europeans had better get used to installing AC everywhere. It's ridiculous that every building has heat available and heating is mandated in tenancy law despite our non-existent winters, but AC is seen as an evil.
