I'll never forget how Jake trashed Biden over the AFG withdrawal, without a single word about how Trump created the problem by surrendering to the Taliban, freeing 5000 fighters and abandoning the AFG government. Jake was a jackal then and has continued ever since.

This predictable “stabbed in the back” narrative is not at all how I view the war based on my experience reporting on it, and to many Afg veterans it is infuriating. But for a sizable chunk of America, including other Afg veterans, this is the version of history that is sinking in and will persist.

We’re talking here about Col. Josh Gaspard, who parachuted into Bashur during the 2003 invasion as a 2LT, then a year in Afg, then company command in surge-era Iraq. His Columbia degrees aren’t even in the “woke” social sciences, they’re in industrial engineering and engineering management systems.

This is the area I worked on a lot w/USAID funding in AFG & elsewhere. Ppl do not understand there is no Indy media w/o intl funding in many places & no that doesn’t mean left or right wing. USAID set up independent in AFG. Helped women journalists & women owned media. These things will be lost
I'm hearing a lot from the media NGO sector about the impact of USAID cuts. A lot of small investigative media organisations across the globe are facing imminent closure as the funding they've budget for has vanished overnight, and the funder community has no capacity to absorb the shock.

The Danish presence in Afg was fairly small (a battalion), but the DANBAT fought hard for years in a very tough district of Helmand—unlike some NATO nations with larger contingents that took on relatively quiet sectors in the west and north and had restrictive “national caveats.”

the afg withdrawal was probably the bravest act by a sitting US president in my lifetime so of course everyone learned to never do anything like that again
The most annoying thing about the shit Biden got for the Afghanistan withdrawal is the conviction with which people proclaim that there was a really good way to withdraw a hundred thousand people from a landlocked country where you have no friendly borders

I’ll say again, In IRQ & AFG, our own troops would render aid to & assist in medevac of enemies who had just tried to kill them in a firefight.
They treated them better than ICE treats fellow citizens.
That’s what being professional & supporting the rule of law looks like.
