the AHSAA has me out here defending private schools. They just voted to separate private and public high school sports. Private schools already played up a classification due to their ability to recruit and that system’s worked well for 20 years. Now the segregation academies are truly segregated.

And it’s not fair to the kids. Mobile has a couple of very large private schools that are gonna have to drive to Birmingham to play Briarwood and John Carroll. That’s just dumb. The AHSAA Central Board had no private school representation to advocate for those kids either.

The Alabama House of Representatives has passed a bill that would not count students who are English language learners toward enrollment for the purpose of classification by the Alabama High School Athletic Association.

The AHSAA opposes the bill.
