#AI-NPCs
TTRPG Creators: please, just say no to "AI." No AI background music, no AI-generated NPCs, no AI character art or podcast covers. It's *all* theft and it's *all* destructive.

I miss when ai meant video game NPCs and not the plagiarism water poisoning machine

dudes who were calling other people NPCs are now blindly following AI

There are over 1,000 NPCs in 'Fable' and they are all voiced by real actors 🎮

• ~100 actors were cast to voice the game's 'living population'

• No Gen AI was involved

Petit Planet has Hoyo fans excited because there is an option to turn off the “talk to AI NPCs” and also an option to NOT let the game feed your interactions to their AI models.

I would argue that it being in the game period is the issue.

"These NPCs must have advanced ai or something!"

tes 6 will have laughably bad implementation of ai npcs calling it

real talk are gamers gonna have to start calling npcs “the computer” instead of “the ai” from now on?

I missed the days when the term “AI” was solely how NPCs behaved in video games.

Can we go back to that era?

Yeah they’ll just delete it all and replace it with AI NPCs and Cybertruck.

"I need AI to help me invent NPCs"

For In Golden Flame Act 1 I just let my Kickstarter backers invent NPCs and they were way funnier and infinitely more unique than anything AI could come up with.

“You say you’re anti AI but you use [xyz] which uses AI!”

Generative AI is very different from traditional AI (ie, NPCs in video games, automated AI used to help moderate apps, etc.) When people speak of being anti-AI, they are generally talking about GEN AI. I encourage to learn the difference.

“Lots of games are using AI chatbots for NPCs, this is fine.”

Where. Who. Which ones.

It’s certainly not the majority of games and even if it was, it would still be incredibly shitty.

"I hate AI"

"Ummm well actually AI also means NPCs so you need to be more specific"

I am going to punt you into the sun

Havok sees major changes coming for AI in video games—not generative AI, but good old-fashioned AI for NPCs.

When companies talk about using AI for stuff like NPCs, this is the kind of fun and creativity they want to take away. Honestly, a lot of modern games fill worlds with generic NPCs just to make them feel more "lived-in", but in Mina, each NPC is hand-crafted, and it truly makes the world feel alive.

The new game "Where the Winds Meet" uses AI chat bots for NPCs. It's really uncomfortable.

www.pcgamer.com/games/rpg/wu...
Wuxia MMO Where Winds Meet is full of AI chatbot NPCs, and people are doing all the standard obscene stuff to them: 'I made him think that my character was pregnant with his child'
Can't we just go back to the Zork school of NPC dialog?
