I feel like I broke up with someone after I declined the AIStats reviewer invitation. I don't feel like it's right for me to review papers if I don't write them myself these days. Sucks.

no aistats? :o

As stated in my email: 1) submissions first go through an LLM triage checking factual correctness, novelty/significance, and technical correctness (AISTATS does the later already), 2) a relatively small fraction proceeds to human review.

AISTATS is from now on officially called SISTATS 🐍
Trump tells the UN he is officially changing the name of Artificial Intelligence to "Super Intelligence" and says all US government documents will now be changed to refer to "SI"

AISTATS CfP is out virtual.aistats.org/Conferences/... . They also have submission quotas like ICLR 2027:
- No more than 12 submissions per author.
- Authors who do not have at least one accepted paper at ICLR, ICML, NeurIPS, or AISTATS may appear as a co-author on at most 3 submissions.

As the proceedings of AISTATS are now online, I take the opportunity to advertise one more time for our joint work with my PhD student Vahe Karagulyan on empirical risk bounds for Markov chains.

More works to come on this topic soon!

Empirical PAC-Bayes Bounds for Markov Chains
The core of generalization theory was developed for independent observations. Some PAC and PAC-Bayes bounds are available for data that exhibit a temporal dependence. However, there are constants ...

Last time I was publication chair for AISTATS, I contacted authors who had promised to release code in the form but failed to do so. A couple said there had been a misunderstanding because theirs were theory papers; I replied that they could release Lean code. Maybe that is the direction to go.

For me it works out because the ML work I do often fits in the AAMAS scope. So it's been my top target since 2024.

If I were doing more general / broad ML work I might consider e.g. UAI or AISTATS. Or, if NeurIPS keeps splitting into multiple sites, that could help too.

Very happy that our paper "High-Dimensional Analysis of Bootstrap Ensemble Classifiers" was presented as a poster at AISTATS 2026.

📄 Paper : arxiv.org/abs/2505.14587
💻 Code : github.com/hcherkaoui/o...

In this work, we analyze bootstrap ensembles in high dimensions using random matrix theory.
High-Dimensional Analysis of Bootstrap Ensemble Classifiers

Moonwalk: Inverse-Forward Differentiation
Backpropagation’s main limitation is its need to store intermediate activations, or residuals, during the forward pass, which restricts the depth of trainable networks. This raises a fundamental quest...
