Good - anything that reduces kerosene production is especially important to reduce ALCM / ALBM / HABM threats, and it seems this was a particularly important kerosene producer.
It seems there are two facilities there - I wonder which has been hit? Chernomyrdin or Surgutneft or hopefully both!

The General Staff have stopped sharing the Missile Interception Rates. They will show what is shot down, but not what was sent. But we have plenty of Intel. to make Very Good Assumptions!

Missiles: Onyx anti-ship, Ballistics (Iskander-M + N.Korean KN-23) and Kh-59 were fired by Russia overnight, along with 106 drones.
3 x Kh-59s and 85 UAVs were intercepted by Ukraine air defence. 13 places suffered hits.
Ukraine won't say but probably 5 missile hits + 8 drones.

For detecting low flying cruise missle one needs AWACS on patrol, also Soviet systems like S-300 were equipped with a specialized radar mast. Their main job saw stopping AGM-86 ALCM that comes to some strategic target.

Maybe ask Germany why they refused to send the UK Taurus as a stopgap replacement so we could send more SS? What ALCM have Spain provided? Italy? Portugal?

There was no reason to undercut it since limits were high enough to allow all planned forces—until 1985 when the U.S. deployment of increasing numbers of ALCM equipped bombers would push us over limits. So we withdrew the pledge (and blamed the Soviets for violating the “spirit” of the SALT I.

IMHO, from a nuclear strike point of view, B-2s are essentially useless until LRSO exists. B-52s with ALCM are far more effective with regards to probability to penetrate (PTP).

Good shooting, but I just don't understand why the Russians are routing their cruise missiles so..... stupidly? They could go lower or route around the threats or so many other things. It's almost like they just don't care. (Used to work with ALCM and ACM).

The narrative at 6 and 32 minutes into the documentary does a good job of explaining (at a very high level) the bomber and tanker tracks. I really can't say much more due to both ignorance of what they were doing back then and still remembering how we planned B52 ALCM and B-2 bomb strikes.

but I am more concerned about low-observable cruise missiles with extended range and terminal seekers than I am about any of this hypersonic stuff. If you really need to be there in 35'ish minutes, we've got that covered with the D5. Otherwise, let's focus on SOF and non-nuclear LO ALCM/SLCM. (2/2)
