if you're interested in Buhurt but broke, might I suggest your local Amtgard, Belegarth, or Dagorhir group?
Boffer LARPs instead of steel but they all allow you to wear full armor kits if you want. Amtgard is more casual than Bel/Dag but they're all cheap/free!

Two years and 61 days on e: Yeah at an Amtgard event, I will hopefully remember to post these.
Also god I love how queer affirming people are in my Amtgard parks.

Two years and 60 days on e: Pretty sure I was another person's 'first trans person met' and it went pretty well.
She had no idea what a Long Island was though, so that was funny.

Rent that bitch out to SCA/Amtgard all summer, televised tournaments
Okay but
What would YOUR totally gratuitous White House lawn event be, if YOU were the mad king of a dying superpower

Finished this leather armored mask for a friend. Really happy with how it turned out.

My character at Amtgard could get his own coat of arms, so of course I went as hard as possible with it.

Thirty years ago, I played a LARP called AMTGARD.
Amtgard had one (1) rulebook; That rulebook was written by a dude who lived in New Mexico, and it was in English, and everyone who played Amtgard played Amtgard from a photocopied binder of that one rulebook.
All under the same rulebook. The same.

I'm really glad Bluesky took off 🥳
I occasionally do costumes for #Amtgard, it's a "Swords and sorcery" themed LARP and was my main hobby for nigh on a decade. Some of the best people I know I met thru #LARP 🥰

Used the files from #lootstudios. to make this hammer from their Phoenix Forge set. Used it as a trophy in an armor challenge at amtgard.
