Amaravati, March 18, 2026: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu launches the 'Divyang Shakti' free travel scheme in Amaravati today, with MLAs rolling it out across constituencies. The initiative covers free rides on APSRTC's city ordinary, metro express, Palle Velugu, Ultra-Palle Velugu, and express services spanning 73% of the fleet's 7,264 buses. It targets 21 disability categories under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, from physical impairments to conditions like autism, thalassemia, and haemophilia. Beneficiaries, expected to rise from 2.05 lakh to 12.76 lakh including attendants, get digital QR-code passes via the Mana Mitra WhatsApp platform, APSRTC app, or bus station counters.

According to reports, the APSRTC bus allegedly rammed into the private bus from behind after its driver suddenly applied the brakes. The impact severely damaged the front portion of the APSRTC bus, leaving its driver trapped inside the cabin.

Leaders of the AP Public Transport Department (APSRTC) Employees’ Union on Tuesday expressed their gratitude to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for approving long-pending promotions in APSRTC. In a statement, union State president P. Damodara Rao said that although RTC was merged with the government on January 1, 2020, the previous administration did not grant permission for promotions due to various reasons. Since the formation of the TDP-led coalition government, the union had been requesting promotions from the rank of Assistant Mechanic up to Executive Director. RTC Managing Director Ch. Dwaraka Tirumalar Rao responded positively to their plea and forwarded the file to the government for approval.
