You could get a lotta mileage out of the basic themes from lots of APLang anthologies: community connection, work/labor/money/economy, conservation, home, conformity and individualism, the gov’t and leadership, adventure and exploration…

Hot take as a long-time AP Lang and Comp teacher: AP Language and Composition isn’t really about language at all. If it was, kids would be learning about language change and variation, descriptivism, pragmatics, syntax—the actual study of language. #Collegeboard #APLang

My AP Lang kids are deep into their rhetorical analysis lyric posters, and the vibe is immaculate—orchestra hip-hop playing, everyone locked in and focused. 🔥🎶 #APLang #RhetoricalAnalysis

@dansup.bsky.social , who is the founder of pixelfed, sent this letter to Mark Zuckerberg/Meta regarding their blocking of links to Pixelfed.
Dear Mark, I hope this finds you well. I noticed something interesting today - it seems Instagram is blocking links to my little open-source project. You know, the one that lets people share photos without harvesting their personal data or forcing algorithmic feeds on them. I have to admit, I'm flattered. Who would've thought a small team of volunteers could build something that would catch your attention? We're just trying to give people a choice in how they share their memories online. No VCs, no surveillance capitalism, just code and community. Remember when Facebook started? It was about connecting people, not maximizing engagement metrics. Our project might be tiny compared to Instagram, but we're staying true to that original spirit of social media - giving people control over their online presence without turning them into products. You could've ignored us. Instead, by blocking our links, you've given us the best endorsement we could ask for. You've confirmed what we've been saying all along - that big tech is more interested in protecting their walled gardens than fostering genuine innovation. Every time you block a link to our platform, you remind people why we built it in the first place. Your action tells them there are alternatives worth exploring, ones that respect their privacy and agency. So thank you, Mark. You've turned our little project into a symbol of resistance against digital monopolies.

Sad! I live near #DC. My #APLang Ss went on a field trip today to visit the Museum of Women's History for their DE US Hist class & I jokingly made a comment this week that they should go now before POTUS shuts it down for focusing only on women. Exec order:

Trump issues executive order to eliminate ‘anti-American ideology’ from Smithsonian
The order directs the vice president to eliminate what he finds “improper” from the Smithsonian Institution, including its museums, education and research centers, and the National Zoo.

aplang is the easier one because it's supposed to be like "you take aplang and then aplit" but my english teacher in 10th grade told me he thought aplang would be a waste of time for me so i didn't take it. aplit was the first and last ap i took because i just like english

i didn't even take aplang but from what i've heard it's actually hell this year i'm so glad i'm in a class where the teacher at least had us do most of our essays on paper. but i've heard my classmates talking about how "chatgpt could write a better essay than i wrote ughhh". Bro

Things are no longer embryonic, but they’re also not not-embryonic, if you catch me. Lots to fill in.

Some of the best, most interesting, most engaged writing in the AP Lang classroom is coming when I explicitly lower the stakes and encourage experimentation. The next step: how do we do all that cool shit even in more serious high stakes work? #iteachela #ela #aplang
Photo of prompt/feedback sheet for AP English assignment. The prompt asks students to either a) operate like Deborah Tannen, shifting in and out of narrative and commentary to make an argument, or b) write ironically and hyperbolically, like Jonathan Swift, and adopt a persona while still clearly developing their own effective argument A photo of a student’s last pragraph, driving home the satire. “Sure certain things were invented by accident, like penicillin, X-rays, and super glue…. But perfection matters the most, right? Someone was bound to come up with that sooner or later anyways. And that’s not what they were programmed to do in the first place. They couldn’t complete the task they were meaning to do and instead did something else. That’s too human. That’s too faulty.”
