Great cluster of sunspots this morning. This is the AR4366 eruption, including the most intense class (X) of solar flares.

Another bright and crystal-clear day in Vermont.

Meet active region AR4366. This newcomer #sunspot has just rotated into view on the Earth-facing side of our star. It rapidly became the lead flare producer of the past day. Will we see strong #solarflares in the coming days? Stay tuned and read more #sun news at: buff.ly/HVTgLbX

die Sonne bzw. AR4366 hat ja aktuell ganz schön was drauf!

Sunspot group AR4366! One of the most potent to have fired powerful X class flares in years (6 so far). A brief break in the sky after non stop rain! #astronomy #astrophotography @stormhour.com @photohour.bsky.social

Behold #sunspot AR4366. It's huuuge! About 10 Earth diameters from left to right. It is facing almost straight to Earth, so if it goes boom we'll get to see some auroras again!

Monster sunspot AR4366 released 14 M (moderate) #flares over the past day! Plus, multiple analyses tied to the recent X flares from AR4366 now point to potential coronal mass ejection arrivals from late on Feb 4 into Feb 6. We might get bright #auroras later this week:

Looks like I spoke too soon, AR4366 has come back to life with an M class flare as it rotates towards the west limb of the Sun.... 🌞💥👀

AR4366, the sunspot region that amazed us with a barrage of X flares last week, has just been carried out of view by the sun's rotation. But we can still see its flares! 🔭 Read today's #sun news at: buff.ly/olSkq6J

Gigantic Sunspot AR4366 just now. It's been tossing out X-class flares, but no CMEs. It has those locked up tight, so no aurora potential from that while it's crossing the meridian. Holding a solar filter up, it's just barely visible to the eye without magnification.

In early February 2026, the sunspot region AR4366 released a series of powerful flares, including an X8.1 flare—one of the strongest recorded in recent years.

The #sun is on fire! In just 24 hours, sunspot AR4366 — 10x wider than Earth — erupted with 5 X-class #flares, including an X8.1, the 3rd-largest of Solar Cycle 25. Strong #radioblackouts hit Earth’s sunlit side, and space weather watchers are on high alert. Read more:

AR4366 right now lookin like a pretty good region to watch! Pretty much nonstop flaring in the 13-hour loop. Lot of magnetic complexity right now too.
January 31, 2026 at 6:48 PM
The #sun produced a total of 10 X flares this week ... but none over the past day. And sunspot region AR4366 is getting smaller. Still, the sun stayed busy over the past day, punctuating the time with a sharp M2.2 flare. 🔭
