🧵 A 6-year journey to getting a paper out with the @ATLASexperiment involving the #statisticalcombination with 12(!!) analyses. Alt text will contain the caption for all figures in this thread, the pdf version of these figures can be found at https://t.co/3274gIXcnQ 1/16

It’s 2023 and there are @CERN physicists attending @ATLASexperiment workshops in person and coughing like they’re dying. Just connect remotely…

Not the @ATLASexperiment which confused me for a second. Although it is observing a collision. https://twitter.com/fallingstarIfA/status/1574583529731670021

Congratulations to a student of ours! In the collaboration, you first have to complete a qualification task (QT) and contribute to the expt, before becoming a 'signing' author.

@ATLASexperiment: "You have now been accepted as a full 'signing' member of the ATLAS collaboration."

Morning, today is when I fly to #Amsterdam @Iamsterdam

If anyone in @ATLASexperiment needs me for the next two weeks - please don't. #vacation #vacances #semester #vakantie That is all.

Being an @ATLASexperiment member means we have the unwritten responsibility to provide international transportation of items between other members of the collaboration, e.g. to pick up an ATLAS Thesis Award and bring it back to the US.

How @ATLASexperiment and @CMSExperiment communicate results
November 15, 2024 at 4:24 PM
For how much I do complain to my colleagues about the politics within @ATLASexperiment - especially when it comes to procedural work such as going through approval for a paper... one can put together slides talking about work done by an analysis team without bothering them. 1/2

Does anyone have a timelapse of the NSW being dropped in? I didn't get to watch the livestream. @claranellist @stevengoldfarb @freyablekman @ATLASexperiment @Claire_Lee @saschamehlhase ?

I know there's a short video of it, but it doesn't show observable motion of the NSW 😅

It's a great day when you can release a new set of public likelihoods. This time, @ATLASexperiment has done it for the SUSY Electroweak soft 2-lepton analysis (the first iteration using 139ifb of data): https://www.hepdata.net/record/ins1767649 Limits on compressed SUSY, dark matter, and g-2!

Happy to see the summary plot I worked on with @ATLASexperiment public https://t.co/W8NG1A0lE8 This shows our current sensitivity to the recent g-2 results of both @Fermilab and @BrookhavenLab using the Run 1 and Run 2 2L analyses and the first iteration of Run 2 compressed!

Pretty pleased to announce that @ATLASexperiment has an analysis that now cites @pyhf_ 😀. #pyhf has been used in a stat combination! https://arxiv.org/abs/2106.01676 . The onshell WZ, offshell WZ, and compressed analyses are combined in the Higgsino plane in Figure 16d.

Hrmm @PKoppenburg does @LHCbExperiment have a rainbow logo? Where can I find all the logos/design? In @ATLASexperiment we have this page that colocates it all: https://atlas.cern/design

Oh look, it's a gif of how my #particlephysics #postdoc in @ATLASexperiment is going. https://t.co/NkSZaxByN3

What does an @ATLASexperiment physicist say when let them know you just found out tops decay to W+b?

"We knew" ("W e-mu")

... maybe a stretch, @TopPhysicist ?

Me waiting in @ATLASexperiment control room for LHC @CERN to start Run 3 so I can find SUSY.

Whenever one is on-call at @ATLASexperiment, you pick 8 hour shifts during detector operation. They're nicely timed to coincide with public transit operating hours as well so nobody is ever stranded.. but those 23h00-07h00 shifts are always so weird...
November 15, 2024 at 4:06 PM
Hey @ATLASexperiment and @claranellist - so I have a Switch. What strings do I need to pull to race around the LHC? 🥺🥺🥺 https://twitter.com/Polygon/status/1301510973715550210

This is where/what I work (on). Has captions too! And 360! https://twitter.com/ATLASexperiment/status/1253317535740555267

I guess a good question for @ATLASexperiment and outreach (@Claire_Lee , @claranellist , @1cRebeca , and others)? I got matched for the Skype a Scientist thing with some Kindergartners and 1st graders (6-8 year old kids) for particle physics stuff. Any good outreach resources?

Very exciting that @lukasheinrich_ gave seminar @CERN to talk abt the cloud computing resources combined with #OpenData allow for both reproduction and reinterpretation of particle physics results published by @ATLASexperiment, @CMSExperiment, @LHCbExperiment, & @ALICEexperiment. https://t.c...
