It's a Shoota with an Auspex fitted. Something in the mind of the Mek Boy that made it knew it was the right shape for mine detection.
If the Auspex doesn't work, the boy whacks the ground in front of him wiv the circular bit. No bang=no mine.
Bang=need a new circular bit. And maybe a new Ork.

As to the character, I've always been fascinated by the Sprit's Touch Auspex power and wanted to make use of it in an interesting way. Had to shorten the "story" down to fit one post, but there's also some not so subtle Mnemosyne references to it as well as they're one of my favorite VtM concepts.
