LucasArts had so many internal tools, but to make levels their FPS games "Dark Forces" and "Outlaws" they just used the good old AutoCAD. Here are shots of "Outlaws" maps being worked on in AutoCAD R13 for Windows:

Office life before the invention of AutoCAD and other drafting software. Prior to the release of AutoCAD in 1982, engineering drawings were all done by hand using different grade pencils, erasers, T-squares and set squares.

I know wine moms and lawnmower dads, personally, who said "Bernie is too extreme!" five years ago that are currently drafting DIY guillotine plans in AutoCAD using parts from Home Depot. They are absolutely not ready
one of the consistent things you pick up on from all of these people is that they are just catastrophically unprepared for what a real blowback will look like
