yeah, I don't think I can do anything about it, but I appreciate the heads up. I don't know why YouTube does that sometimes. YouTube doesn't give a setting to force videos to start at a specific resolution. I uploaded as 1080p. It's using AV1 video encoding. I don't know why.

in fairness nowadays AV1 video compression is very good and you can fit a lot into 20mb.

i think my graphics card (2070 super) doesn’t support av1? but then why would mpv play those videos perfectly fine locally? i’m so confused
i found out that for some reason i can play AV1 format locally on my jellyfin machine through the web portal, but only for some videos. and there seems to be no obvious contributing factor, like avc or no avc, embedded subs or no embedded subs, whatever colour format or pixel format, doesn’t matter
