You know what I just realized? Not a single one of my neighbor aajis is overweight! In fact half of them are incredibly fit. Putting planks and running 10Ks. One still regularly walks around in leather pants. 🥰
Some old men neighbors are overweight. But not a single old woman!

Half of them go visit family in Florida Arizona Idaho etc and come back and rant about Trumpy cousins and nephews. And are always happiest back in the city.
The city is an underrated retirement destination for those who can afford it. The lives of these neighbor aajis are proof of it.

These aajis have pretty much convinced me and wife that if we can keep affording the rent at that age, no place to spend your senior years like Manhattan. Everything a short walk away, deliveries quick & cheap, good services by the city, some of the best hospitals in the world.

Neighbor aajis do go visit kids grandkids or are visited by kids grandkids. But it's roughly once every few months, and Thanksgiving Easter or high holidays. They're not default nannies or babysitters. But do have healthy family lives. No one really seems lonely as such.

It's not like my well to do relatives this age in India are not active at all. Most do stay active, travel, etc. But their lives do revolve around children and grandchildren. Including my parents.
