A shattered windmill leans into the storm

A towering, abandoned windmill dominates a flat rural landscape beneath a turbulent gray sky. Its cylindrical stone and plaster tower leans sharply to the right, cracked open in several places and shedding fragments of masonry and wood. At the top, the windmill's wooden sails are badly damaged. Some retain pieces of weathered brown paneling, while others have been stripped almost completely to their skeletal frames. One sail appears to be breaking apart, sending splinters, leaves, and debris swirling through the air. Thin ropes or cables hang loosely from the ruined structure. A massive exposed iron gear is embedded in the lower right side of the tower, rusted dark brown and surrounded by crumbling stonework. A narrow wooden door sits near the base, emphasizing the enormous scale of the machinery above it. Muddy ground, shallow water, dry grasses, and distant fields stretch toward the horizon. Warm light breaks through beneath the storm clouds from the left, catching the flying debris and edges of the ruined sails. Several dark birds circle the windmill, including one blurred bird crossing close to the foreground, adding movement and depth to the violent, windswept scene.
