It finally happened, I was looking for a good reference on a linguistic problem in ancient Hebrew and found that the most useful source was something I forgot I wrote. Time to get those collected essays together....

FYI that I will be doing an ASK ME ANYTHING tomorrow from around 2-4 Eastern. I expect to field a lot of questions about the Hebrew Bible, ancient Israel, and Luka Doncic. Thank you.

Same with r/AcademicBiblical for biblical studies. Really top notch scholars active in that community.

Every time I'm scrolling through Reddit and come across a post from r/AcademicBiblical, I want to shout, "Read another author! NT scholarship does not begin and end with Bart Ehrman!"

www.reddit.com/r/AcademicBi... I wrote an undergrad paper on Isaiah 6, was quite surprised to read about the difficulties translating the bit about the "train" in verse 1. My OT prof said it likely was a reference to a divine phallus. Shocking for a conservative school imo

The Suffering Servant passage is a eulogy for the prophet who wrote earlier parts of Second Isaiah.

(Or so argued Joseph Blenkinsopp.)

The subreddit r/AcademicBiblical is a great idea in wanting to have a place to discuss biblical scholarship without Reddit Atheists or Christian apologists gunking up the convo, but it quickly becomes very clear that most of the regulars' knowledge of NT scholarship begins and ends with Bart Ehrman.

- My partner loves thrift stores and estate sales, and I keep myself chained to the books and DVDs section
- good university presses will have listings or catalogues of interesting stuff
- mentions on Wikipedia or r/askhistorians (or r/AcademicBiblical if you're FREAKY)

Okay, Hebrew Bible Bluesky, help a guy out. I appear to have stumped Academic Bible reddit; my question has 27K views but no responses. Is this a good question or am I missing something obvious?

this is anti intellectualism.

“All evidence and scholarship points to one culprit. That, to me, is suspicious. I am launching a new investigation. Bring me evidence to undermine what two thousand years of scholarship has agreed upon.”

You are RFK, in a nutshell.
