The photo shows a nice-looking gray and white bird perched on a post. This is a Ring-billed Gull – the most common gull regularly seen in New York State. It is one of two gulls that breed in the Adirondack Park, the other being the Herring Gull. This species was nearly eradicated by humans between the mid-nineteenth century and 1920, but has since recovered.
