Introduction to Hospital Episode Statistics - On-Demand
Are you using or planning to use Hospital Episode Statistics (HES) data in your research or applied work? This online seminar is designed for PhD students, professional researchers, and data analysts in academia, government, and the private sector who want to build practical skills in understanding, cleaning, managing, and analysing HES data. Through a mix of lectures and hands-on practicals in R or Stata, participants will learn how HES data are collected and coded, how the data are structured, how inconsistencies arise, and how to address key challenges around data quality, variation, anonymity, and confidentiality. The course also covers basic analysis workflows, approaches to applying for HES data, and the strengths and limitations of using HES in academic and applied research. All data and scripts are provided, and participants receive access to recordings, materials, and a monitored Q&A forum for 30 days after the seminar, making it easy to attend live or revisit the content asynchronously.
