Red Buckeye is a deciduous flowering understory tree native to our area in the Carolinas. It is nature’s welcoming to migrating hummingbirds. Vertical clusters of red buds are visible at the ends of the tree’s limbs surrounded by fresh, palmate green foliage. These buds will very soon transform into red and orange tubular blooms reminiscent of mini fireworks! redbuckeye wildlifegarden

When the Red Buckeye blooms, the hummingbirds return! Our tree is approximately 12 years old. This native understory tree (mature height ~ 25’) attracts bees, hummingbirds, pollinators, and small mammals. Thrives in partial shade at our woodlands edge. #aesculuspavia #redbuckeye

Just a reminder. Your buckeye may not be dead. In stl they have a tendency to play dead in the middle of summer.
