disaffection as affectation: or, how to climb the ranks in corporate media
Hot take: journalists who brag they don't vote are weird or don't understand what is at stake, especially when so many people want to vote but can't, or are being actively discouraged from doing so.

Lighting a scene the ultimate throwback affectation.

A subset pet peeve: all the notable founders were, by any objective standard, career politicians. They were not rustic amateurs who only reluctantly held office when duty called, even when they played at that affectation. They spent the bulk of their adult lives engaged in professional politics.
I don’t really think “not a politician” should be a selling point for a candidate. The job is politician. I want to elect someone who understands that job and is good at it and also is not a dirtbag. We have seen how catastrophic it is to make “not a politician” the priority over “not a dirtbag.”

The Dark Side affectation reveals intense irony poisoning and the dismissal of Judeo-Christian and democratic forbearance. It shows a right-wing political culture of addled kiddults desperate to lay claim to authority, but only able to muster a petulant "I hate you!"

It's also weird that Brianna Wu, who formerly co-ran Cenk's operation and has not disavowed it, has had nothing to say about his extremely anti-Semitic ad, despite her new Ben Gvir fangirl affectation.
people not going to want to hear this but the fact that it’s Cenk’s idiot ad that helped set the Michigan intraparty stuff on fire goes a long way towards retroactively validating some of what I thought at the time were the more bullshit anti-Hasan Piker arguments

There is a segment of the German center right backed by the Springer press and others that is trying to help the far right redefine the equal citizenship regardless of ethnic origin as some kind of woke affectation rather than a basic element of the free democratic constitutional order.

but squishy is a pretty obvious affectation

“All I recall about Henry James is my mother complaining that he always wanted a lump of sugar broken in two for his tea - and that it really was affectation, as a small knob would do quite well.”

I hc that hanekoma doesnt drink often, but when he does hes a lightweight because hes an angel. He prefers to be knurd than drunk.

We should absolutely keep standard time; DST is a dumb affectation, no one asked for it. No we shouldn’t try to keep DST because we already tried and everyone hated it. The circadian rhythm is real, it works best if noon is aligned with highest sun position at noon aka standard time.

That’s an American affectation. I don’t believe this man lives in the US.

By striking an authentic balance between pop and R&B, ‘Faith’ eschewed the vanity of affectation and was driven by humble admiration instead.

OK... I'm not in the habit of sharing articles from this publication, but stone me... this is an absolute classic of the genre. When we say that complaints about language are usually complaints about language users, this is the kind of article we're talking about.

Celebrities can't speak properly
The habitual dropping of the ‘t’-sound is an affectation, even if a subconscious one.

My grandmother always called trick or treating “begging” and I may adopt that affectation

I really can't stand her voice. I've tried to giver her a chance but her affectation rubs me the wrong way. It would be a decent song if Sabrina sang it

Not sure why so many companies feel the ‘charming dumbass’ act of Peyton Manning is worthy of their ad dollars. Although the ‘charm’ is an affectation at least the ‘dumbass’ part is legit.

The biggest sin Elizabeth Holmes committed was that stupid voice affectation.

She also does an accent sometimes that no one can place. It's not from this state. It's like a weird affectation. All this and crap politics 😬

What a spicy question 🤣

Strictly speaking, Sable would not "duel", i.e. participate in ritualized honor combat, because honor is, to her, a meaningless affectation of the oppressor class.

As to whether there might ever be an Alexander vs. Sable 1v1, though....... 🤐

Sounds like an urgent welfare check is warranted !

Stockholm Syndrome affectation seems to be a condition of employment at the ABC.

I read “The Economist” when I was a PoliSci/History/Econ student and wanted to be serious and informed about the world.

I mock “The Economist” now because I’m more informed about the world

Less serious, though, I’ll cop to that. But seriousness is an affectation kids put on to pretend to be adults
