hot take - agile sucks because its used as a way to cut corners and save money. i think its better to be good at waterfall and identify areas where someone can improve rather than going fully into agile or do agilefall.

waterfall sucks too btw if you're stuck in design and documentation.

> Across the aisle in Product Development Land, we’re endlessly fascinated by the intricacies of building and releasing stuff. Revenue-side questions about delivery dates are met with long tutorials on Scrum vs. KANBAN vs. SAFe vs. AgileFall.

the best engineering teams I've seen absolutely do not

Oh god.

And it's the government.

So you know they're gonna use SAFe, it's gonna be required in the contract.

All Hail agilefall.
All Hail agilefall.

I don't think any team ever really escapes AgileFall.

It's itertative until it's not anymore!

"AgileFall is a seductive trap" — good post. Perhaps one of the biggest challenges with Lean/Agile is that so many, if not most, companies cannot detach from the safety and predictability of traditional process models?...

“AgileFall is an ironic term for program management where you try to be agile and lean, but you keep using waterfall development techniques. It often produces a result that’s like combining a floor wax and dessert topping.”

but some of that is that between my own increased understanding of how to agilefall in a model compatible way and models getting better, summoning correct code, even for hot paths, is just easyish now. it's nerve-wracking tbh, i keep expecting much worse output and many more cleanup phases
