we are gen x and we will no longer be silent about our huge inherited dongs, talented tongues, and near-pathological agreeableness, shit heads

It’s the combination of high neuroticism, high openness to experience, and low agreeableness that does it IMO

Research on psychological factors that correlate to political activation finds people high in openness to new experiences, high in conscientiousness, and low in agreeableness more likely to engage in boycotts and buycotts.
Being easily pissed is a virtue.

Complete frictionless agreeableness is not a workplace strength, and it's not even the only (or best!) way to get ahead in our busted capitalist paradigm. Yes, it's risky, but being any kind of human being is risky...walking down the street is risky. Why not stand for...anything

related thought: low agreeableness sickos have a big advantage wrt llm mastery.

this also explains the detrimental effects on some people: i think it reinforces unconsidered, unordered thinking via the social effects of agreeableness without decision.

this all reminds me of that time some anti-woke libertarians (?) complained that nobody understands how they were high-openness low-agreeableness truth warriors or whatever

As someone with a psychology background, the big five will always be OCEAN:

Openness to Experience, Conscientiousness,
Extraversion, Agreeableness, and Neuroticism.

What are the qualities someone needs to make you fall in love with them? (Rhetorical)

there's been a bunch written about how LLMs' agreeableness poses dangers for the emotionally vulnerable. Are there any studies on how their agreeableness causes people who use them a lot to treat actual humans as though they expect the same degree of agreement and submissiveness?

Low agreeableness is a competitive advantage for LLMs
Google Gemini is more petulant and unwilling to play along than the rest. An achievement, really

This data set from @jburnmurdoch.ft.com shows declining conscientiousness and agreeableness and increasing neuroticism across generations - probably linked to smartphone use and social media.

I wonder if the propensity to retain control over your own decision-making process rather than relegating it to a robot has a genetic component or is it just downstream of high/low agreeableness or other character trait.

I buy this argument and you all know I'm very critical about studies about the effect of using AI but this one makes a ton of sense. The design of total ease and agreeableness has always been bad for our rigorous thinking. It is bad when it comes from people too!
Preliminary results show that the current framework of "AI" makes ppl less likely to help or seek help from other humans, or to seek to soothe conflict, and that people actively prefer that framework to any others, literally serving to make them more dependent on it.
Sycophantic AI Decreases Prosocial Intentions and Promotes Dependence
Both the general public and academic communities have raised concerns about sycophancy, the phenomenon of artificial intelligence (AI) excessively agreeing with or flattering users. Yet, beyond isolat...
