Aces has some really bug issues in how it handles luminance clipping monochromatic colors. AGX does a lot better at that, but yeah, still feels a bit short. A tonemapper that gets a similar clipping behavior to film stock would be really nice. Digital clipping is a bit ugly.

alright so fundamentally the problem I have with agx is all the written material about it is about cognitive processing etc but that's not really the problem tonemapping is solving
tonemapping is more like film or a sensor. and every film stock etc has its own character. there is no neutrality

Congrats on finishing solo, that's the hard part. For the next GB jam: in Eevee, Shader to RGB into a Color Ramp set to Constant, four stops on your palette, pins it to 4 colours. Film > Filter Size ships at 1.5 px (set 0) and View Transform at AgX (use Standard), or edges blend and hexes drift.
