Honestly I think this story is going to have a long half life. Few Americans know about individual leaders in the Iranian regime. But if they know one it’s probably ahmedinejad. And given what a shit show this has been this just drives home the mix of stupidity, recklessness and cynicism.

It does sounds like the Israelis had been in contact with Ahmedinejad for a couple of years prior to this so there was some groundwork done on their part but Ahmedinejad was also signaling that he had something like 30% of the IRGC ready to turn on the government
