Imagine your worst neighbor coming home at three in the morning in their aircar, sounding like a hundred lawnmowers, throwing dirt and gravel through your front window, and then landing on your roof.

You don't want a flying car, because you don't want anyone else to have one.

The Hiller Aviation Museum has many fine cautionary tales on aircar/hover infantry whizbang sci-fi war efforts.

“The poison gonna make me one o’them sooner or later an’ no friend worth his salt lets his buddy go that route!”

The orange airship racing across the bottom half of this page seems very Flash Gordon-esque to me. Anybody want to take bets on Tom Mandrake being a fan of Alex Raymond?

Syd Mead: "The aerodyne principle is based on internal lift. Its power source, a turbine or whatever, takes in large volumes of air & feeds it through other turbine engines or a similar power source and creates thrust. The pilot redirects the thrust to control the direction of the aircar."

This $1M flying car can reach speeds of 155 mph
But don’t expect the ‘AirCar’ to fly over rush hour traffic anytime soon.

In case you're wondering what kind of prose an 18,000 word per day regime produces, here's an excerpt from "Earth, the Marauder", one of Burks's science fiction novelettes, set "deep within the gnome-infested tunnels of the moon".

#thefilmcrowd those look fancier than Slartibartfast's aircar, but I bet they can't go up to R17.

On the docket for our Tuesday night movie this week as we take a Pan-Am flight from the Off-World Colonies to Los Angeles, 2019.

Watching the Final Cut version, which I've never seen before (only the theatrical version and director's cut)

@kurtbusiek.bsky.social One of my favorite things you did in Thunderbolts was the idea of Hawkeye hunting down an abandoned villain base for their HQ and scrounging an old Champions aircar for transport. It’s SO Hawkeye, and decidedly NOT Avengers.

In HM#2 (out now), we rode along with a hired gun in his aircar to collect on a debt, tempted a meditative old miser with all varieties of flesh and watched devils hack the minds of men and women. All over a casual late afternoon cup of coffee.

Bid Normal adieu.

"Welcome," said Slartibartfast as the tiny speck that was the aircar, travelling now at three times the speed of sound, crept imperceptibly forward into the mindboggling space, "welcome," he said, "to our factory floor."
