The Philippine National Police have arrested Toraipe Lusod, also known as Aripi Adam, who was identified as one of the gunmen involved in the January 25 attack on Shariff Aguak town Mayor Akmad Ampatuan Sr.'s convoy. The attack, which involved a B40 anti-tank rocket, occurred in Maguindanao del Sur and targeted the mayor's vehicle. Lusod was apprehended following a tip received by the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) police office, which led to his capture in Barangay Meta, Datu Unsay, Maguindanao del Sur. During the arrest, Lusod surrendered after realizing he was surrounded by members of the Datu Unsay town and Maguindanao del Sur provincial police offices. Police recovered an assault rifle from him. The attack on the mayor's convoy was part of a larger ambush, with four of the attackers killed in a subsequent shootout with soldiers while attempting to flee. Eleven other individuals, including a Datu Unsay town official, remain at large and are wanted for their involvement in planning and executing the ambush. The arrest marks a significant development in the investigation into the January attack, which has been a major security concern in the region. Authorities continue to pursue the remaining suspects to ensure justice is served for the targeted assault on a local government official.

The suspect involved in the January 25 ambush of Shariff Aguak Mayor Akmad Ampatuan Sr. and his security escorts has been arrested. Toraipe Lusod, also known as Aripi Adam, was apprehended on October 24, 2026, by the Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Barangay Meta, Datu Unsay, Maguindanao del Sur. The arrest followed tips from residents who reported his presence in the area. Police Captain Steffie Salanguit, PRO-BAR spokesperson, stated that Lusod surrendered peacefully after realizing police had surrounded his hideout and informed him of multiple arrest warrants. During the operation, police seized a 5.56 M4 assault rifle from Lusod, which was reportedly used in the January 25 attack. The attack occurred when Ampatuan was traveling in a bullet-proof vehicle with four security personnel in Shariff Aguak, less than five kilometers from where Lusod was arrested. The assailants fired rifles and a B40 anti-tank rocket, wounding Ampatuan and his four companions. Four other alleged ambushers fled the scene but were later killed in a shootout with soldiers who attempted to stop their speeding vehicle. The soldiers engaged the occupants after they allegedly opened fire, resulting in the deaths of all four. Aside from Lusod, 11 other individuals, including a local executive in Datu Unsay, are wanted for their alleged roles in planning and executing the ambush. Police and military personnel are conducting a joint manhunt to locate and arrest the remaining suspects. The attack on Ampatuan's convoy was a significant incident in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region, highlighting ongoing security challenges in the area.
