Screenshot of a social media post sharing a warning about a policy under the Trump administration. It states that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) were directed to send personal data of Medicaid enrollees—including names, addresses, Social Security numbers, and medical history—to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on June 10. The post notes that this includes non-U.S. citizens in California, Illinois, Washington State, and D.C. It raises concerns that the data, originally collected for healthcare purposes, could now be used to locate individuals for immigration enforcement or to deny immigration applications. The post highlights legal and ethical objections by CMS officials, who warned the transfer violates federal privacy laws and longstanding protections but were overruled by senior political appointees.
