This was one of 7 seen on the night - my highest count of the spring! - the amazing and enormous - Giant Peacock - Saturnia pyri - moth-trapping at the Parque Natural de los Alcornocales, Cadiz Province, Andalucia, Spain on the 17th of April 2026. This scarce species is one that I only see in the Alcornocales - Pechipogo flavicrinalis - moth-trapping at the Parque Natural de los Alcornocales, Cadiz Province, Andalucia, Spain on the 17th of April 2026. I stayed local this AM visiting the Jardin Botanico at the refurbished Alcornocales Visitors' Centre below Alcala (off the A381). It's a great introduction the local flora of the Alcornocales (albeit most orchids are now past their prime).

Von oben nach unten die Gänsegeier fotografiert. Leider etwas unscharf, da zu weit weg. Aber trotzdem war es großartig sie zu beobachten. Weit über 10 waren es. 🇪🇦 Alcornocales.
Man sieht 6 Gänsegeier, die auf einer Grünfläche mit niedrigem Bewuchs stehen und sich umsehen.

In den Korkeichenwäldern der Alcornocales, Spanien, hab ich diese schöne alte Korkeiche gesehen.
Im Mittelpunkt steht eine alte knorrige Korkeiche, dahinter erkennt man weitere Korkeichen, teilweise geschält. Weiterhin wachsen niedrige und mittelgroße Büsche und Bäume in der Umgebung. Es liegt Laub auf dem Boden und der Himmel ist hellgrau.

I stayed local today looking for birds around Alcala de los Gazules & the Alcornocales. I found a fair mix of migrant passerines (Redstart, Spotify, warblers etc.) Good news: I had a Spanish tick. Less good news: it was Egyptian Goose. As in the UK the species is spreading rapidly in Andalucia 🪶
