The Japanese-built Cherry Turbo arrived in UK Nissan showrooms alongside a slightly unexpected in-house rival, the Italian-built Cherry Europe GTI, product of an Alfa-Nissan joint venture. Featuring the 1490cc boxer engine from the Alfa Romeo Alfasud, it had the same 112mph top speed.
