That's just the thing. They did. It was called AlienBlue and it was a very nice app. They gutted it and are wearing its bloody remains as a suit.

I forgot all about AlienBlue! Apollo was just irreplaceable, gosh.

I was an alienblue user before it got bought out and cannibalized to make the official reddit app. burn down the reddit c-suite and salt the earth

it's also built on the cannibalized carcass of alienblue, which I used before apollo. reddit hired alienblue's developer, who shut down alienblue. so that's another slap in the face

Yeah, I used AlienBlue until that died and mostly just scrolled through on desktop until recently. :/

I’ve gone alienblue > narwhal > apollo for like the past 10 years. if third party apps get killed, reddit will become a desktop only visit for me. I can’t stand the proprietary reddit app

I never mind paying for great apps, hell I bought several Twitter apps I had no intention of using (I was very much a Tweetbot guy - now Ivory) just to support the devs. I’ll do the same here.

I was an AlienBlue Reddit user so I ended up stock reddit but still paid for Apollo because it was great.

Honestly, it’s disappointing in todays mobile centric world that Reddits iOS client is such trash. Apps like AlienBlue (remember they BOUGHT that app) and Apollo were literal blueprints to make a decent app. The fact it’s been this way for years is not negligence, it’s down right user hostile.

Been barely casual on Reddit for 3 years, and the Reddit app still is absolutely atrocious. I miss Redditisfun and AlienBlue. Reddit went from “the hitchhikers guide resource” to “yet another Friendster/MySpace/Google+” on July 1, 2023.

I'm devastated. I moved to Apollo once the excellent AlienBlue got shut down and there's no decent options left.

I hope this causes Reddit to go out of business
