For #AllYouCanWriteAugust, I’m working on B.O.O.N., a fey courtly murder plot with unlikely found family, betraying secrets, and fleeing from fate only to end up in the arms of destiny.

Magic. Meddling. Monstrosity.
Three implausible allies.
Only one second chance.

Power corrupts.

Fed magic drop by drop, those who provide it make the call on what those lucky fey will do with it. As the chess masters tug the threads of fate, it will be all the more difficult to stop them with the tools they themselves have provided.

A pinch of this, a dash of that for a witches’ brew… #AllYouCanWriteAugust

Resulting tea flavours:
🐦‍⬛Morally grey fey
🐦‍⬛Deals with devils
🐦‍⬛Found family, reluctant allies
🐦‍⬛Celtic folklore, druidic magic
🐦‍⬛Good is not nice
🐦‍⬛Slow burn & pining
🐦‍⬛Masquerade

Rowan’s coven of grandmothers represent Autumn (Oma), Spring (Gran), and Winter (Nonna). They raised him as their eventual Summer once his hag transformation completes.

Wise beyond untold years, the coven uses brutal magic to show their grandson love… #AllYouCanWriteAugust

Some themes in BLOOD ON OUR NAMES:

🐦‍⬛ Terrible father figures
🐦‍⬛ The cost paid in being gifted magic
🐦‍⬛ Found family
🐦‍⬛ Good is not nice
🐦‍⬛ Embracing one’s own capabilities
🐦‍⬛ Learning to grieve
🐦‍⬛ Finding courage
🐦‍⬛ Second chances

I'm not writing for #allyoucanwriteaugust but I'm definitely #allyoucanreviseaugust rn

It counts, right?

Might queue up some pretty revision snippets soon. ✨️

Part of chapter one, a conversation between Rowan & one of his hag grandmothers. His POV chapters maintain more lyricism than Cat or Tove’s. Also he has common words he’s cursed not to use, even throughout his chapters’ prose. His fey curse extending to me! #AllYouCanWriteAugust

The Bellowdark is but one of many fey liminal spaces that the protagonists travel to and through. Sat between the Autumn and Winter kingdoms, in the minor kingdom of Samhain, the coven reins strong and parties harder…

TOVE 📔🌚
Tove is Lady Dea. Tove is Adelaide Montagu. Tove is someone who fits ear cuffs over round, blunt ears. Tove is the watcher at the walls of the ballroom. Tove is blunted fangs behind red lips, asking a question of the face in the moon: “What now?” #AllYouCanWriteAugust

CAT 🪓🩸
Cat is an autumn sídhe servant working for her Master, the Autumn Court's regent. She bakes, cleans, keeps her head down. She certainly doesn’t see what she isn’t supposed to. She doesn’t remember that her hands can kill as readily as they create. #AllYouCanWriteAugust

ROWAN 🐦‍⬛💀
Rowan is a fey being transformed into the final piece of a coven of season hags. As their Summer, he is temperamental, cunning. His grandmothers, who raised him in the Bellowdark, keep a watchful eye on him thanks to the many eyed raven, Morrígan. #AllYouCanWriteAugust

I'll be working on my adult fantasy novel pitched as PHAEDRA meets A RIVER ENCHANTED. Alongside this, I'm revising a couple of academic conference papers and beginning to write my MA thesis. Busy month. 🤎

Gotta get in at least 250 words about an antagonist in the next 2 days. I'm thinking Pandora makes a good candidate. But the beast's rival is looking pretty promising. #BKC #AllYouCanWriteAugust #villains #amwritingfantasy #romantasy #femalevillains #amwriting

for #AllYouCanWriteAugust, i’ll be wrapping up my draft of my romantic fantasy where a healer with a hidden gift and unaware of her true heritage must confront a cursed kingdom’s prophecy entwined with ancient tree gods and fae
