Job Summary The Allen Institute for Brain Science has embarked on a large scale project aimed at inferring cortical function in the mouse visual system An essential part of the project is to develop models of visual coding and test theories of cortical computations The modes are based on in house and external data on cell types connectivity and activity during visually guided behavior The Modeling Analysis and Theory group is looking for a scientist to help construct models of cortical computations during visual behavior with particular focus on spiking point neuron models Job Responsibilities Construct simplified models of computations in the mouse visual system with a focus on networks of point spiking neuron models In a team setting compare the results of these models with those at other level of resolution and with experimental dataIn a team setting participate in testing theories of cortical computationsBasic Qualifications PhD in applied mathematics computational neuroscience physics engineering or computer scienceStrong background in scientific computing; experience in developing scientific modeling software especially in computational neuroscience is preferred Strong knowledge of applied mathematics and computational neuroscienceDesired Qualifications Familiarity with NEST NEURON or BRIANExperience with python CC; familiarity with numpyscipyStrong knowledge of machine learning toolsAbility to work in a collaborative environment All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race color religion sex sexual orientation gender identity or national origin
