Picus Capital recently closed a €150 million preferred equity financing round. Carlyle AlpInvest provided this capital. The deal supports Picus's long-term investment strategy. It avoids short-term fund expansion. Instead, the funds deepen commitments to existing portfolio companies. They also enable new investments across various stages. This reinforces Picus's model. Carlyle fee-related earnings jump as assets hit $474 billion in third quarter
By Isla Binnie (Reuters) -Asset manager Carlyle Group on Friday reported a rise in fee-related earnings and inflows of $17 billion for the third quarter, and said it expected to beat its financial targets for the full year. Fee-related earnings, which are generally stable during market volatility, climbed to $312 million, just above analysts’ average estimate of $311 million, according to data compiled by LSEG. Inflows were mainly directed towards Carlyle AlpInvest, a unit that buys and sells second-hand stakes in private equity funds and portfolios, and its global credit business. Total assets under management grew 6% to a record $474 billion from a year earlier. Revenue from selling or refinancing assets came in lower than that recorded during the same period last year, which weighed on the company’s distributable earnings, or profit that can be returned to shareholders. That metric hit $368 million, or $0.96 per share, undershooting an average analyst forecast of $1.01. Chief Executive Harvey Schwarz highlighted growth in its insurance business, its AlpInvest unit, as well as in higher inflows from wealthy individuals. "The combination of these growth engines gives us strong momentum through year-end and into 2026," and positions Carlyle to exceed its 2025 financial targets, Schwarz said in a statement. The company in August forecast 10% growth in fee-related earnings and inflows of $50 billion for the full year. ALTERNATIVE INVESTMENTS Schwartz has been working on a turnaround after the company faced a few difficult years linked to an industry-wide downturn and an internal succession struggle. 3rd party Ad. The company’s peers Blackstone, KKR and Apollo, which are much larger firms, have all seen double-digit percentage declines in their share prices in the period. Higher interest rates in the last few years have hampered private equity firms’ ability to maintain their time-honored model of buying companies, working on them to increase their value, and selling them at a profit. Many firms that started relying on this model have expanded strongly into so-called alternative investments - such as real estate, hedge funds and private credit. AlpInvest has become a growth engine for Carlyle, with assets under management rising 22% in the quarter. The company said in September that the unit has raised $20 billion to buy second-hand private equity stakes. Deal activity has picked up globally in recent months and some blockbuster deals were struck, raising hopes for more to come. Among them is a hotly anticipated IPO for medical supplies maker Medline, which Carlyle owns with fellow investment firms Blackstone and Hellman & Friedman. The deal could value the company at $50 billion, Reuters has reported. Get an up-to-the-minute summary from WarrenAI, our powerful AI financial researcher. Carlyle raises $20 billion to buy second-hand private equity stakes
By Isla Binnie (Reuters) -Carlyle Group said on Thursday it had raised $20 billion to buy second-hand private equity stakes from investors looking to offload assets that built up during a downturn in public listings and acquisition deals. The investment firm’s AlpInvest unit, operating in the secondary market, raised $15 billion for its latest flagship fund along with $3.2 billion in co-investment commitments, Carlyle said. A further $2 billion was raised for private wealth vehicles that will invest affluent people’s money alongside the main fund, the company said in a statement. A slowdown in deals led to a build-up of some 29,000 companies valued at $3.6 trillion in private equity firms’ portfolios by the end of 2024, according to research from consultants at Bain. The value of secondary market assets swelled to $601 billion in 2024 from $273 billion in 2019 and now represents 5% of all private equity assets under management globally, Bain said in its 2025 private equity report. 3rd party Ad. Carlyle’s AlpInvest raises $4.1 billion for ninth co-investment fund
NEW YORK (Reuters) -AlpInvest Partners has raised $4.1 billion for its ninth co-investment fund, an executive at the unit of private equity group Carlyle said, showing continued appetite among investors for access to buyout firms’ dealmaking. The size of AlpInvest Co-Investment Fund IX (ACF IX), and related strategies, exceeds the $3.5 billion eighth iteration of the fund raised in 2021. Richard Dunne, who leads AlpInvest’s co-investment team alongside Roberto Torrini, said the firm’s success in raising an enlarged fund came from securing strong support from previous investors but also inflows from new investors wanting exposure to private equity buyouts. "Part of our value proposition is giving investors access to a part of the market that we believe is incredibly difficult for them to replicate," Dunne said in an interview. Co-investors join with buyout firms to provide the capital needed to fund an acquisition. As co-invest opportunities are restricted to a few parties on each deal, co-investment funds allow numerous financiers to gain access at the same time - opening the door for smaller, or newer, money managers to participate, as well as the largest institutional investors. AlpInvest began raising ACF IX in 2023, and ultimately drew contributions from 185 global investors, including pension funds, asset managers and family offices. The extended timeframe for the raise helped draw in additional new backers, Dunne said. "For newer investors to the asset class, we believe we are a compelling option for them, so staying open for longer is always a good idea and that helped drive us to the finish." ACF IX will invest in whole-company buyout transactions as well as stake purchases, across industry sectors globally. Dunne said among the best investments for ACF IX are backing middle-market transactions, as private equity firms are making good acquisitions in this part of the market, at prices roughly a 15% to 20% discount to what similar assets would have cost during the peak buyout years at the start of the decade. AlpInvest has committed upwards of $19 billion across more than 400 equity co-investments over the past 25 years. The money manager’s broader platform includes strategies which buy stakes in other private equity funds, and provide financing to the buyout industry. Should you invest $2,000 in CG right now?
