Isn’t that the idea with AlphaGenome Atlas? A database you can point an LLM at and ask it questions about genes?

across both gRPC and HTTP clients through the unified alphagenome_cloud_sdk Python SDK. Retains alphagenome-003 in Model Garden for backward compatibility with existing legacy HTTP deployments. For more information, see the AlphaGenome documentation.

AlphaGenome? That seems underwhelming to me because the source data is incredibly noisy and everything has to be experimentally validated anyway, and we lack equipment with sufficient accuracy to validate anything other than broad findings.

This article my Imperial gives a broad view -

But the stuff in particular I’m impressed by is the Alphagenome project by google deepmind.

Half a century ago, King & Wilson proposed that humans differ from chimpanzees mainly through changes in gene regulation. In our new preprint, we used AlphaGenome to map such changes genome-wide, across tissues of the human body! www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...

Cross-species AlphaGenome use raises domain shift: predictions may inherit human-centered training biases. Testing ancestral and orthologous sequence swaps, then validating regulatory effects with perturbation data across tissues, would separate real divergence from model asymmetry.

We used the sequence-to-function model AlphaGenome (Avsec et al., 2026) to predict the extent to which each of the ~17 million substitutions that arose on the human lineage affects chromatin accessibility, a proxy for regulatory activity, in 305 tissues and cell types.
October 23, 2026 at 1:11 PM
Does this work? We benchmarked the predictions against measured chromatin accessibility differences between humans and other great apes. AlphaGenome outperformed all other models tested and accurately recovered experimentally measured human-specific changes.

Kyle Taylor from @deepmind.bsky.social is presenting AlphaGenome at #ASHG26! A great method for annotating variants with impressive performance across molecular readouts.

But the annotations are still far from complete: methylation, context-specific QTLs etc. still some way to go!🧬
