Hi @altuspower 👋🏼The silence is loud. As our communities continue to inhale potentially hazardous air and smoke, @onelineage has disclosed that @altuspower is corporation that owns the rooftop solar farm. I have a lot of questions, did they receive Ca state tax credits to install commercial scale solar? Did they use union labor and prevailing wages? These questions may seem odd, but they are in line with the policy work I’ve done to jump start California’s Green Energy transition, AB2143. I authored the policy in 2022 and it went into effect in January 2024, and it mandates prevailing wage for commercial solar if they are taking advantage of state tax credits, which is NOT the same as residential. The wattage is at a much higher scale as is the installation. This fire is an example as to why commercial property solar farms require the same rigorous oversight as traditional utilities when it comes to installation and operations. My take away: large scale commercial renewable energy is not fool-proof, the installers are still corporations whose goal is to make money, and it all mandates transparency and accountability on all levels. Meanwhile, babies, elderly and our most vulnerable residents are inhaling particle pollution that has been deemed as “very unhealthy” and borderline hazardous by @southcoastaqmd.
