There are re-enactors of many wars, inside and outside of the US. The reason Civil War is so prominent for the U.S. is that the battlefields are here and spread across many states. There are also AmRev reenactments but more geographically concentrated.

For the 3rd seminar course in a row, I’ve taught the American Revolution from Indigenous perspectives. This week, students explored how neutral Indigenous peoples navigated the conflict via diplomacy and subtle espionage. It was the best week yet for seminar discussions!

Paul Revere was Joseph Warren’s brother Mason. In 1760, when Revere was 25, he entered St. Andrew’s Lodge, a newer lodge whose members were mostly craftsmen. It met at the Green Dragon Tavern on Union Street (then known as Green Dragon Lane) in Boston’s North End. #histor #amrev

Nope. Not what I'm saying. Just saying that *most Americans* are generally proud of that event.

(Personally, despite my love of AmRev stuff, I do think the war was Not a Great Idea™️)

There were a few campaigns I'd never heard of. Cromwell's invasion of Scotland.

But he also dod the AmRev, and Chancellorsville and Gettysburg in MY war.

Went back and read it as an adult. The sources were thin, really superficial readings on the campaigns.

Being on Tumblr and ESPECIALLY in the Hamilton/AmRev fandom at that time was, in hindsight, fucking wild

Well.

Most of my people were English. Spanning... well, as far back as anyone can likely trace.

Came over here when coming to America did not yet mean relinquishing one's English-ness. That is to say, before the AmRev. A comparative blink of time.

But I am not English. Ethnicity be damned.
The British right has now descended to the point where 'the England team are not English' is becoming the consensus position

And American democracy doesn't generally create grand monuments to conquest. It builds monuments to its war dead/slain leaders, and somber markers to dearly bought victories. Even the AmRev/Civil War monuments are fairly understated compared to Trump's Roman/Napoleonic/Albert Speer visions.

We don't know anything about the Battle of New Orleans up here in Massachusetts. We know about war time profiteering/smuggling over the border and the battles of the USS Constitution.

Sometimes also about the Hartford Convention. But we ignore most other wars in favor of the AmRev and WWII

It's pretty common, in the runup to revolutions, to see a lot of... anti-establishment? Anti-authority? literature.

Library of America has a set of AmRev pamphlets. Edited by Gordon Wood.

They're damn near impenetrable for non-specialists. But like... worth reading. Frothy, paranoid.

my editors (my friends -- I am an independent published author) are working on "When the World Was on Fire" about a young woman who disguises herself as a man to fight on the Loyalist side of the AmRev in a sort of revenge plot for her family

Speaking of which.

Duffy's Cut is right around the corner from where the Paoli Massacre happened in the AmRev. So that's wild.
