Amazon AppStream 2.0 now supports Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6)
Amazon WorkSpaces Applications now supports IPv6 for https://docs.aws.amazon.com/appstream2/latest/developerguide/allowed-domains.html and external endpoints, allowing end users to connect to WorkSpaces Applications over IPv6 from IPv6 compatible devices (except SAML authentication). This helps you meet IPv6 compliance requirements and eliminates the need for expensive networking equipment to handle address translation between IPv4 and IPv6. The Internet's growth is consuming IPv4 addresses quickly. WorkSpaces Applications, by supporting IPv6, assists customers in streamlining their network architecture. This support offers a much larger address space and removes the necessity to manage overlapping address spaces in their VPCs. Customers can now base their applications on IPv6, ensuring their infrastructure is future-ready and compatible with existing IPv4 systems via a fallback mechanism. This feature is available at no additional cost in 16 AWS Regions, including US East (N. Virginia, Ohio), US West (Oregon), Canada (Central), Europe (Paris, Frankfurt, London, Ireland), Asia Pacific (Tokyo, Mumbai, Sydney, Seoul, Singapore), and South America (Sao Paulo) and AWS GovCloud (US-West, US-East). WorkSpaces Applications offers pay-as-you go https://aws.amazon.com/appstream2/pricing/. To get started with WorkSpaces Applications, see https://aws.amazon.com/appstream2/getting-started/. To enable this feature for your users, you must use the latest https://clients.amazonappstream.com/ for Windows, macOS or directly through web access. To learn more about the feature, please refer to the service https://docs.aws.amazon.com/appstream2/latest/developerguide/allowed-domains.html.

Announcing general availability of Amazon WorkSpaces for AI agents
Amazon WorkSpaces for agents is now generally available, enabling AI agents to securely access and operate desktop applications through managed WorkSpaces environments. Enterprises run critical business processes on desktop applications (ERP systems, CRMs, mainframes, and proprietary tools) where years of customization, undocumented logic, and strict compliance requirements make them too critical to abandon and costly to modernize. WorkSpaces for agentsnow gives AI agents a managed cloud workspace where they can see the screen and operate these applications the way humans do, without requiring application modernization or custom integrations. WorkSpaces uses the same infrastructure for agents as organizations have trusted for over a decade to deliver secure, managed desktops at scale. Agents inherit the same identity controls, network isolation, and compliance boundaries as human users, so organizations gain automation without giving up governance. Organizations can automate workflows such as claims processing, patient record updates, trade settlement, and back-office operations. The service works with any agent framework using Model Context Protocol (MCP), and pricing scales based on active session time. Since launching in https://aws.amazon.com/about-aws/whats-new/2026/05/workspaces-ai-agents/, customer and partner feedback has shaped new capabilities. MCP tool forwarding allows agents to interact with applications and the desktop operating system through direct MCP calls rather than using computer use tools, improving accuracy, reducing latency, and lowering cost. Real-time session control gives operators live visibility into agent activity with the ability to revoke access mid-session. Domain-joined fleet support lets agents operate under existing Active Directory identities, extending the same access policies and audit attribution that apply to employees. To learn more, visit https://aws.amazon.com/workspaces/ai-agents/. To get started building, see the https://docs.aws.amazon.com/appstream2/latest/developerguide/agent-access.html and https://github.com/aws-samples/sample-code-for-workspaces-agent-access.

Amazon WorkSpaces Applications adds support for Windows Desktop OS
Amazon WorkSpaces Applications now supports the ability to set up streaming resources powered by Windows Desktop operating systems using Bring Your Own License (BYOL). Customers can now bring their existing Windows Desktop licenses to support their eligible Microsoft 365 Apps for enterprise, delivering a consistent and familiar desktop experience as users move between on-premises and virtual desktop environments. With BYOL support on WorkSpaces Applications, the operating system is hosted on hardware dedicated to the customer's AWS account, enabling customers to stream Windows desktop applications and full desktop experiences at scale. Customers benefit from cost savings by bringing their existing Windows Desktop OS licenses, eliminating OS fees so they only pay for compute and streaming infrastructure. When the local device and the streaming session both run the same Windows Desktop OS, users apply the same workflows, shortcuts, and navigation in both environments. This removes the cognitive overhead of adapting to a different desktop experience when switching between local and remote work, reducing onboarding time. Windows Desktop for WorkSpaces Applications is available in multiple AWS Regions. For the list of supported regions, see Amazon WorkSpaces Applications BYOL documentation. To take advantage of BYOL on WorkSpaces Applications, organizations must meet Microsoft's licensing requirements and commit to running a minimum number of streaming resources in a given AWS Region each month. Amazon AppStream 2.0 adds support for fractional GPU instances
Today, Amazon AppStream 2.0 announces support for Graphics G6 instances with fractionalized GPU sizes, which are built on the https://aws.amazon.com/ec2/instance-types/g6/, designed to cater to graphics applications that need smaller GPU fractions. Graphics G6 instances with fractionalized GPU sizes (G6f and Gr6f) allow users to utilize only the GPU resources they need, rather than provisioning full GPU instances. This approach helps enable better resource optimization through shared GPU capacity, offering flexibility to choose smaller GPU fractions (such as 1/2, 1/4, or 1/8) that align with specific workload requirements. Organizations can benefit from reduced costs by avoiding over-provisioning while maintaining access to GPU capabilities for applications that don't require full GPU power. These new instance types are available in 10 AWS Regions, including US East (N. Virginia, Ohio), US West (Oregon), Canada (Central), Europe (Frankfurt, London), Asia Pacific (Tokyo, Mumbai, Sydney), and South America (Sao Paulo). AppStream 2.0 offers pay-as-you-go pricing, see https://aws.amazon.com/appstream2/pricing/ for more information. To get started, select an AppStream 2.0 Graphics G6 instances with fractionalized GPU sizes when launching an image builder or creating a new fleet. 🆕 Amazon AppStream 2.0 now supports fractional GPU instances (G6f, Gr6f) for graphics apps, offering smaller GPU fractions (1/2, 1/4, 1/8) to optimize resource usage and reduce costs. Available in 10 regions, with pay-as-you-go pricing. Launch via console or SDK.

Amazon AppStream 2.0 adds support for fractional GPU instances
Today, Amazon AppStream 2.0 announces support for Graphics G6 instances with fractionalized GPU sizes, which are built on the EC2 G6 family, designed to cater to graphics applications that need smaller GPU fractions. AppStream 2.0 offers pay-as-you-go pricing, see Amazon AppStream 2.0 Pricing for more information. To get started, select an AppStream 2.0 Graphics G6 instances with fractionalized GPU sizes when launching an image builder or creating a new fleet. You can launch Graphics G6 instances with fractionalized GPU sizes using either the AWS management console or the AWS SDK. To learn more, see AppStream 2.0 Instance Families.
