Many socialist/communist regimes acted as proxys for sectarian interests (Pashtos in Khalq Afghanistan, Amharas in Derg Ethiopia, Sunnis in Ba'athis Iraq, Shias in Ba'athist Syria) so yeah it's not really rare for a newly founded state to be "left-leaning" *and* open up with an ethnic cleansing.

For the last however long the main conflict has been between Tigrayans & Amharas, & before that, between Amhara & Oromo group, but now it looks like militias from all 3 are against the government

Let’s hope peace prevails in the Horn. That Abiy Ahmed stops destabilizing #Eritrea & #Somalia through his illegal annexation plans. That #Tigrayans, Oromos, Afars & Amharas live together in peace, and trade between Eritrea, Ethiopia, Somalia & Sudan can flourish.
