One of our favourite trees added to the #AncientTreeInventory this year - a charming sweet chestnut (Castanea sativa) recorded at Kilravock Castle near Inverness in May. At 7.74m in circumference at 1.1 m it's impressively thick (& thankfully pretty healthy too🤞). #ThickTrunkTuesday

How's this for #ThickTrunkTuesday? We measured this healthy Sitka spruce (Picea sitchensis) at >6.5ms in diameter @1.5ms above ground. Big for Scotland (though Sitka grows so fast, girth isn't a reliable age cue). Thanks #AncientTreeInventory #volunteers for much tape straightening! #CitizenScience

Great to have #Lloyds staff out identifying future ancient & veteran trees at #EastWoods for the #AncientTreeInventory 👉 buff.ly/BORODxm 🌳 📐

A day of diligent data collection and "time out of the office to breathe and meet new people". We couldn't put it better ourselves! 🧘‍♂️

We recorded individual trees at Meikleour for the #AncientTreeInventory in 2018 & almost every tree was carved with initials, many with wartime dates. Who knew Perthshire was full of such passion?!😜

We had a magic Sunday at Dùn Coillich! Thanks Heather, Andrew & WTS volunteers. We learned willow ID, found rare montane willows & recorded a wild apple for the #AncientTreeInventory. Highly recommend a visit to this community-owned landscape that's regenerating all the time! #DunCoillich #Rewilding
