#Androgens
And that same excess insulin doesn't stay contained to your skin...it also reaches your ovaries, where it pushes them to overproduce androgens and disrupts normal follicle development.

PMOS is just a better name for PCOS so I'm not sure why she listed them like 2 different things.

Also having high levels of male hormones doesn't inherently make you intersex. Lots of cis women get facial hair or balding from high androgens and would hate to be called anything other than a woman.

...blockers, her body *isn't going* to develop along a male course of development. She'll still grow up obviously, but it's going to be far closer to a female development than a male one because their cells are not being exposed to the necessary androgens to produce those changes.

I have chest hair and hair everywhere due to PCOS. So... if you're not on HRT, that may be a possibility. Or at least higher androgens and testosterone naturally. I don't bother to get rid of it because it's oddly gender affirming for me. lol

then you contradict yourself

and speak as an authority for things which you know very little, if anything, about. i might've thought the same at some point, then i started estrogen (i didn't need anti androgens), and lost all strength i had by the 6month mark

“a sufficiently high circulating level of any sex hormone” is what alleviates the symptoms of perimenopause and menopause. to the extent that androgens vs estrogens matters mechanically, it’s that the “sufficiently high circulating level” for androgens is significantly lower than for estrogens
1/7 🩺 TESTOSTERONE: THE MENOPAUSE CURE? 🩺

Influencers are touting the hormone as a perimenopause cure-all for low libido and night sweats.

But medical experts say the science isn't there yet.

I think a cisgender ban on all androgens besides nandrolone, SARMs, and tibolone is a good idea.

I mean yes the study is weird as fuck, but it *does* eventually just kinda wither away without androgens.

They found no relationship between testosterone or other androgens and any other experimental pain measures. But perhaps they figured it was change in hormones over time that was the culprit; this fell through as well.

Most of the studies that found changes used saliva, so they tried that-- nope.

Just a reminder that "High T" is the same sort of rhetoric used by body dysmorphic weight lifters (not the same as normal weight lifters) who then go on to use drugs to the point the excess androgens get converted into... estrogen, resulting in abnormal organ development.

They discuss autoimmune diseases being more prevalent in women:

"patients with systematic lupus erythematosus usually have an abnormal sex hormone metabolism that causes a net increase in estrogens and/or decrease in androgens"

The many interventions such as

- testosterone
- oestrogen/anti-androgens
- mastectomy
- vaginoplasty
- phalloplasty
- breast augmentation
- facial surgery
- voice therapy
- psychotherapy

are all categorised as gender-affirming care.

Some of these might be low or high risk. Some may give benefits

I support increased restrictions on cisgender usage of androgens besides tibolone, with nandrolone and SARMs as possible exceptions.

XXY people are identified male, not "legally female." And XX people with CAH have ovaries and a uterus and are overwhelmingly raised female. Excess androgens can virilize external genitalia, but the body doesn't "develop as a male".
These things are classified by developmental pathway (testes vs.

Yes PCOS is very common, and much higher rates in Black women. I have PCOS.

Excess androgens can lead to some advantages in muscle building and strength. But also hair growth, acne, and skin changes.

We are often prescribed hormone blockers, etc.

Hence why I ponder about gender affirming care.
I had to look this up and was surprised that this apparently affects roughly 1 in 10 women.

Surprised it is that common.

Surprised also that something that common is something I had never heard of.

(maybe I shouldn't have been so surprised about the second point)

I’m not going to pretend that I know anything about the trans woman experience.

Only saying that I do think about gender, care and acess to hormones and therapies as a mid-age black woman with PCOS, which causes excess androgens.
So no, Black women built like me don’t get to move around with the all the privileges that cis-white women do.

Even less so if we do have to take hormones for our health! So many of us have PCOS and have to regulate our androgens!
