i'm constantly coming back to rejecting "androphobia" (or, god forbid, "misandry") in favor of discussing "trans-emasculation" — which among its many other useful functions, puts anti-transmasculinity in conversation with other oppressed groups of men who also face emasculation
We need to understand that transmasculine people's experiences of misogyny do not invalidate their genders, but that misogyny itself arises from regendering impulses whose entire point *is* to invalidate their genders! The invalidation is inextricable from the misogyny, inseparably alloyed!

my annoying online discourse take is that leftist men using "androphobia" to mean misandry is silly because androphobia has its set meaning as (often trauma based) fear of men that is not rooted in ""misandry"". in the same way gynophobia exists but isnt the same as misogyny and hatred of women

It is true that among the trans women writing at the time who would later develop audience for their transfeminism, I am probably the one most overtly sympathetic to men.
And my—real, explicit, merited—androphobia has always tended to be relatively more quiet as an influence in my work.

We can talk about women's rights and issues without androphobia. And we need to, for several reasons, one being that trans folks are majorly impacted by our androphobia. As we see continued waves of legislation attacking the basic rights of trans folks, cutting this out is more important than ever.

Its on Tumblr, theres this whole movement of people thinking "transandrophobia" is a real thing (its not, because androphobia isnt real, that isnt how intersectionalism works, they are misattributing other stuff to this made-up term) and its really annoying

I recognized it first when I was pretty young and my mom related to me stories about being terrified of unfamiliar men—even like plumbers—when she was a kid. It helped me understand those feelings were normal.

I remember watching some videos about a man who was a long-term foster parent alongside his wife. He described how often foster children are afraid of men they don’t know, because of experiences with being molested, abused, or hurt by foster fathers.
