#Anemometer
Looks like the cup anemometer survived.

Cold & foggy this morning, but the first thing I spotted was my weather station down. The little white pile in the middle picture.

Still valiantly providing temperature information but the anemometer and rain gauge are inoperative jammed into the grass. Did one of the deer get pissed off? No idea.

My favorite was when I was in grad school in Boulder around 1977, a Chinook blew the anemometer at NCAR away. Last reading was something like 100 mph.

You can buy a meter on Aliexpress that can do this for about 11 dollars. It's called a anemometer.

Such crashes are rare, as planes are either limited to take off in strong winds, or they avoid flying near windy areas. In this crash, the airline flouted limits plus an ATC haven't an anemometer turned on. The wind damaged the tail and plane nosedived into the water en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wider%C...

My anemometer started a support group for things that spin without going anywhere.

I expect each turbine would have its own anemometer? Would be good to get that data into the weather models.

Good AM,all. Hope everyone intact. Really threatening sky Fri pm, but just a few sprinkles. Found more hail damage in addition to camper vents and spa cover. New holes in attic exhaust, lots of vegs on ground, poblanos holed, green onions beat up. Anemometer on weather station missing a cup.

I also used an anemometer to gauge how much the exhaust ducting impacted the airflow over the heater. Down to 1 cubic meter per second from 3. 🤨

I asked the anemometer why it kept changing its mind about wind direction.

Just give me my thermometer, my hygrometer, my barometer, my anemometer, and a rain gauge.

I can probably get you something close to accurate, but not more than about 2-3 days ahead.

#OTD in 1975, Soviet Venera 9 became the first spacecraft to enter orbit around Venus. Its lander successfully transmitted images of the Venus surface, the first images ever sent back from the surface of another planet.

I'm pretty sure the 26% difference is owing to them measuring different things; the claimed CADR is based on the average wind speed going out of the fan X flow area; the abstract here says they're "Calculating CADR values using particle decay rates".

I guess you know Shetland experienced a 197 mph gust in 1992. But the anemometer blew away. So it’s an unofficial record.
